Acting Scholarships Available To Detroit Residents

Registration for the fall session of the Detroit Repertory Theatre’s Acting Workshop will be held the morning of September 27, 2008 at the theatre. Anyone wishing to register must call the Detroit Repertory Theatre to schedule an appointment. Funds for scholarships for low to moderate income residents of the City of Detroit are available. Call to find out what is required for a scholarship.

The DRT’s Acting Workshop, directed by veteran Actor Bill Boswell, is an actor’s training program for people 18 years and older who have no experience, as well as actors who seek further study. Classes will begin Saturday, October 4, 2008 and end with a showcase performance on Monday evening December 15, 2008. For further information or an appointment, call (313) 868-1347.

The Detroit Repertory Theatre is Michigan’s longest running not-for-profit professional theatre located in the heart of Detroit at 13103 Woodrow Wilson, Detroit, Michigan, 48238. It has remained in the theatre vanguard by staunchly advocating interracial casting, stressing theatrical relevancy, inventing an array array of cultural and educational community services and playing an active role in neighborhood revitalization. The implicit goal in all the theatre’s efforts is to culturally, socially and artistically help transform our city, our region and our state into a race trancendant, civil society and to produce the best possible professional theatre while fighting, by example, the disturbing level of racism that still exists.

Casting Call

REDLINE CINEMA ANNOUNCES PLANS TO SHOOT A FEATURE FILM IN DETROIT
Lightning, Iron and Mantis will go into production in 2007

(TROY, MI) December 7, 2006. Redline Cinema, a film production company in Troy, will shoot a new feature film in Detroit in 2007. Lightning, Mantis and Iron is a crime drama/action film written by screenwriter and fight choreographer Cal Simmons of Grosse Pointe.

The film takes place in Detroit in the year 2065. A police captain and master of northern kung fu must stand against a corrupt police chief poised to usurp control of both the city and the crime-ridden underworld of half the nation. Enter a legendary assassin who is an advisor to the corrupt police chief and renowned for killing the world\'s greatest fighters. To complicate the situation, the police captain's rival, another infamous assassin and southern kung fu master, seeks to retire in the city that was once his home. Is this rival a friend or foe? Together they spin a violent web of intrigue that binds their paths in a contest of brutal conflict. However, things are not always as they seem and the fate of Detroit will be decided by the outcome. In an era where the fist has replaced the gun as the weapon of choice, who will win and who will die?

Stacey Jozwiak, Sonja Ribicki, Mare Costello and David Gazoul are among the local actors in the film. Simmons is still casting for selected roles and, at a later date, will be searching for music for the soundtrack. The project is currently in pre-production and scheduled to go into production with Redline Cinema in 2007.

"I was attracted to Lightning, Iron and Mantis because it's a multi-faceted story that is not only dramatic and engaging but has some humorous tones as well," said Dionne Richardson, CEO of Redline Cinema. "The story suspends reality, but it's still grounded and familiar since it takes place only fifty years into the future."

In addition to Lightning, Iron and Mantis, Redline Cinema has two feature films, two documentaries, a television series and a two short films in various stages of development, production and pre-production.

Redline Cinema also produces music videos for various artists including Capital/Sho Nuf recording artist Tone Tone of Detroit and a well-known gospel singer in Atlanta.

Redline Cinema will host an open casting call at Beans & Bytes at 4200 Woodward Ave., in Detroit on Saturday, December 9 from 2 pm to 4 pm. Both speaking parts and extras are needed for two upcoming projects. Actors should bring a resume and headshot. No experience is needed for extras.

General Information on InZer0

OVERVIEW

Set in the near future in a post-apocalyptic world, InZer0 is the story of an ambitious courier weaving his way through a dangerous city. The future of the human race is at stake as the population has been decimated and is now sterile. Our courier finds himself in the middle of this struggle and encounters many enemies and allies along the way.

PLAN

Shooting for InZer0 began in March 2006 with the plan of creating twelve 15 minute episodes over the course of a year (one episode per month). When all twelve episodes are complete, Thought Collide Productions will use this science fiction series as a demo to pitch the concept to the Sci Fi Channel (or similar network). The intention is to not only gain experience in making movies, but to master the art of production on all fronts. Each episode will be complete in 6 weeks and premiered at the Mitten Movie Project (held on the first Tuesday of each month) at the Main Art Theatre in Royal Oak.

PRESS

InZer0 receives substantial support from our community as we continue to prove our commitment to making high-caliber films in Detroit. We have enjoyed visits from celebrities, sold out screenings and press coverage from many local media including The Detroit News, Detroit Free Press, Real Detroit, Metro Times, The Oakland Press, The Macomb Daily, Ann Arbor Daily News, Crain's Detroit Business, 89X, WDET, G1NBC TV and many more.
