The
Wyandotte fourth
Annual Wine tasting
to benefit the Downriver
Josephine Ford Cancer
Center downriver
will be held August
15th, the typical
3RD Friday date.
The festivities
begin in downtown
Wyandotte at 6PM.
Wine
tasters donate $15
to the volunteers
who will be stationed
under the clock
tower in downtown
Wyandotte and be
given a commerative
wine glass decorated
with the art work
of Nancy Pitel depicting
a woman with a pink
ribbon. They also
receive a map listing
more than 20 locations
they can visit and
have that glass
filled with various
Michigan wines.
According to Vickie
Lucas, co-owner
with her husband
Gerry of the Brighton
Bed and Breakfast
and one of the organizers,
While I was
working at Curves
in Wyandotte the
crew there came
up with the idea
of focusing this
year on Michigan
wines. Since Wyandotte
is all about shopping
local, or entire
committee loved
the idea. Pat Hand
of Discount Drinks
immediately began
working on making
a list of all the
various wines available.
Each location chose
their own.
All proceeds will
go to the Josephine
Ford Cancer Center
Downriver to help
those who may have
special needs during
treatments and cannot
afford them.
There
will be art and
live entertainment
throughout town
as well as free
horse and carriage
rides and an historic
trolley tour.
Tribute
to the Blues Brothers
Band will be playing
on the Elm Street
stage made up of
Elwood (Doug Williams),
Jake (Glenn Dryden),
The Penguin (Brad
McClain) and Shannon
Thomas on lead guitar
will all be there
with the Blues-mobile
( a fully refurbished
car just the like
the one in the movies.).
Expect Blues Brothers
tunes starting at
6:00.
Biddle
Gallery: Indie /rock
band Apartment 4
featuring Jaye Thomas,
Angela Sheldrake,
Aaron Redfield and
Larry Campbell will
be performing along
with electro-pop
performance by Perfect
Summer and techno
set by Colin Zykowski
of People Movers
Productions. The
art show Dog
Days of Summer
will continue with
many interpretations
of mans best
friend.
Rivers
Edge Gallery: Through
the Looking Glass:
A Twist on Realism
opens with the work
of seven artists
all who use realism
as their technique
but the result is
not necessarily
just realistic.
Also performing
will be the straight
ahead jazz combo
Random Access with
Gary Wojcik, Scott
Johnson and Gordon
Mills. All played
for the Grosse Isle
Big Band.
Art
that is breast cancer
specific will be
placed throughout
the city. An art
display by Marion
Melody showing hand
made paper casts
of a breast reconstruction
will be at Energie
Coffee and Smoothie
Bar. A watercolor
painting by Kyra
Wojcik entitled
Hot Chocolate/
Right Here Right
Now depicting
a friend of hers
that had a breast
removed shows her
husband enjoying
hot chocolate off
her missing breast
area. This, according
to Kyra, shows her
friend taking back
her sensuality with
her husband assistance.
This will be displayed
at Country Enchantments.
Another view of
this same friend
will be shown at
Traffic Jam. Nancy
Pitels Chrysalis
depicts a woman
unveiling her scarred
chest area for the
first time to herself.
Nancy notes that
a chrysalis is a
symbol for rebirth
like a butterfly
emerging from its
cocoon. This will
be displayed at
Sandees Shoppe.
Amy Cheniers
lion getting his
badge of courage
is fittingly shown
at the new Lions,
Tigers and Bears
and Patricia Izzo
will have two pieces.
A strong photo by
Izzo of a retired
marine (Male) who
had a masectomy
after breast cancer
will be displayed
at Chelseas
Mens Store
and another titled
diagnosis
is one of Patricias
hand painted photos
showing an antique
manniquin caressing
her breast Diagnosis
will be displayed
at The Boston Tea
Room. Also included
will be emerging
artists shows at
Energie Coffee and
Smoothie Bar featuring
Michael Michalski
and The Grind Coffeehouse
featuring Heather
Hall.
