SHOW:
Friday October 27, from 7:30 - 11pm
SHOW:
"PLAY"
In
this exceptional retrospective, a powerful selection of
forty young Canadian and American artists share an incredibly
rich and diverse mix of drawing, digital arts, painting,
performance, photography, poetry, printmaking, sculpture,
sound, textile and video works.
artists
have chosen to reflect on nostalgic childhood memories
and the shared pop culture of their youth. The exhibit
promises a hyper-real atmosphere of an eclectic mix of
late 80's and early 90's electronics, era specific consumer
imagery and generational references. The collection runs
the spectrum from idolization to critique, from depictions
of childhood character heroes to works analyzing correlations
between real and virtual spaces. Artists include Windsor's
own Allison Cake, Sara Jane French and Rory O'Connor and
Detroit's Carl Oxley III and Mark Sengbusch.
The
opening celebration boasts a surreal mix of era music,
a screening of "Rainbow Bright and the Star Stealer",
and the opportunity to play against gaming champions in
classic console. Admittance is free, many of the artists
will be in attendance, and most works will be for sale.
