SATORI
Instant
awakening
Reflections
of
Society
Artists:
Andrew
Drisko
&
Serge
Gay
jr.
Often
art
is
a
Reflection
of
the
society
from
which
artists
live.
In
a
world
of
global
awareness,
instant
news,
war,
and
the
threat
of
terror;
art
can
both
serve
as
a
diversion
and
as
a
reflection
of
that
society.
On
Feb
2nd,
2007,
an
artist
reception
will
open
Synergy
Art
Gallerys
latest
installment
entitled
Satori
to
the
public.
Entitled
Satori
the
Zen
word
for
instant
awakening;
the
exhibition
promises
to
be
a
refreshing
and
innovative
exhibition
that
boldly
takes
on
the
implicit
world
in
which
we
live.
The
exhibition
consists
of
oil
and
acrylic
paintings
by
Serge
Gay
jr.
and
an
array
of
work
from
sculptor,
Andrew
Drisko.
On
display
will
be
the
work
of
Andrew
Drisko,
whose
work
deals
with
perception,
adaptation
and
the
evolution
of
human
consciousness.
Juxtaposing
characterizations
of
society
and
culture
with
his
abstract
images,
Drisko
draws
connections
between
abstract
expressionism
and
the
chaotic
nature
of
society.
The
work
stands
as
a
physical
manifestation
of
an
individuals
perceptions
and
thoughts.
The
eclectic
works
combined
abstract
expressionism,
symbolism
and
diverse
perceptions
of
contemporary
society.
Drisko
explains.
We
can
address
all
the
elements
of
modern
day;
we
are
no
longer
limited
to
whats
widely
accepted,
understood
or
driven
by
some
perceived
social
or
moral
code.
Art
can
be
a
comment
on
individual
values,
what
we
treasure,
or
even
on
what
we
as
a
society,
have
chosen
to
destroy.
Also
on
display
will
be
paintings
by
Serge
Gay
Jr.
a
third
generation
artist
whose
work
deals
with
the
figure,
and
social
structures.
Dealing
with
issues
of
truth,
beauty,
lies
and
morality,
the
work
exposes
the
strengths
as
well
as
the
perceived
failures
of
moral
society.
The
paintings
focus
on
the
individuals
in
a
framework
of
a
society
and
culture.
Living
in
such
diverse
places
as
Haiti,
New
York
,
Miami
and
now
Detroit,
Serge
Gay
Jr.
is
promising
to
be
a
talented
and
out
spoken
Detroit
artist.
