FAMILY DAY: RADIO CAROLINE

Radio normally is an unapproachable medium. Artist Gregory Green’s ‘Radio Caroline’ installation seeks to bring that unapproachable medium to street level for any and all to interact with. With this idea in mind, on December 21st, for the last Family Day program of Broadcast, MOCAD invites families to have a hands-on experience with our small-wattage radio station.

We are extending our regular family day hours, and inviting children of all ages to “drop-in” and learn various simple DJ techniques. Mixing, mash-up and beat juggling, as well as the basics of radio transmission technology will be taught by experienced DJs from 12noon until 4pm. Participants will have the opportunity to craft live transmissions of their own, the results of which will be made available at a later date.

There will also be holiday themed crafts, such as glittery snow globes and other treats and surprises.

The mission of the Museum of Contemporary Art Detroit is to present art at the forefront of contemporary culture. As a non-collecting institution, MOCAD is responsive to the cultural content of our time, fueling crucial dialogue, collaboration, and public engagement.
