"Hell
Follows a Pale Horse, and other tales from a dream"
Adam
Gabriel Winnie presents his solo exhibition: The Pierpont
Commons Juried Exhibition Winner
The
exhibition features a new installation work composed of
large scale photo montages, glass photographs and sculpture
which stretch 70ft. Drawing from images spanning 4 years,
Adam has reconstructed new meaning from the old. Utilizing
a large format xerox copier, montages were created using
repeated combinations of
scanning, printing, rearranging to create huge works on
paper.
Each
fragment of the exhibit is intended to work together and
play off the other, as sentences to a paragraph would.
But this paragraph is recited in a dream state, clear
as day to the subconscious but muffled to the ear.
The
singular sculpture piece in the exhibit, titled "For
Lautréamont" has a chilling presence. The
work is a 3ftx3ftx3ft glass case enclosing a pile of cast
cow femurs next to a small vial of the artists blood.
The
recurrent themes of the physicality of being, death, and
the human condition play out in a landscaped of paper
and glass. The soft, delicate quality of paper mimics
that of human flesh while the rigid yet fragile attributes
of glass relate to bone.
As
Adam prepares for a move to Georgia next August this exhibition
will mark his final solo show in Michigan.
