Southwest Artists’ Network Exhibition
Saturday March 7, 2009 reception 5:00pm. – 8:00pm
Center of Music and Performing Arts Southwest
The premier exhibition and open house, hosted by the newly formed Southwest Artists’ Network of Detroit (SWAN), is scheduled for Saturday March 7th . The event will take place at the Center of Music and Performing Arts Southwest (COMPAS), 8701 W. Vernor at Lawndale. The open house will run from 3:00-8:00pm, with an artist’s reception beginning at 5:00pm.
SWAN is a group of visual artists – primarily, but not exclusively comprised of Latinos who have formed to promote arts and culture through exhibitions and workshops in southwest Detroit.
“There is a huge number of artists living in and connected to southwest Detroit, and this is a great opportunity for them to come together under the name of SWAN to discuss and share their artwork and vision”, states Marta Lagos, longtime community member and activist living in southwest Detroit.
Participating artists include: Diana Alva, Alvaro Jurado, Nora Chapa-Mendoza, Mary Laredo-Herbeck, Lisa Luevanos, Jim Puntigam, Mel Rosas, Vito Jesus Valdez, and others.
