Tirtza Even

Tirtza Even is a video artist and documentary film maker concerned with the less overt manifestations of complex, and at times extreme, social/political dynamics in specific locations.

Relying on subtle digital disruptions of images and sound, she elicits those signs of human life that might otherwise remain latent or oppressed but which disorient and interrupt any unified view of life in these locations. Her goal, in exposing the partiality underlying competing viewpoints on the depicted locale is to open space for dialogue and tolerance.

Her most personal exploration of these themes is the recently completed “Once A Wall, or Ripple Remains”. This extensive work returns to images shot during a period of artistic collaboration in Palestine in 1998-99, and re-interprets them within a distinct aesthetic informed by ethical questions of representation, and the impact of subsequent events on their perception.

Approximate schedule, 6pm-7pm: informal gallery tour and discussion of the multi-channel video installation of the work, and the earlier piece “Icarus”. 7pm-8pm, full viewing of the single channel video “Once a Wall, or Ripple Remains” (59 minutes) 8pm onwards: Artist’s talk and Q&A. Reception.
All are welcome. Please feel free to attend for all, or part, of the evening.
