Filming in Detroit

With all the buzz going on around town about Detroit as the new Hollywood (perhaps a bit of a stretch, though Detroit certainly DOES have Hollywood’s attention), there have been loads of potential job openings as crew members for the soon-to-be-opened studios and movie extras, as well as business opportunities for the savvy entrepreneur.  Enter Jenny Feterovich, aka DJ Jenny LaFemme, whose new Filming in Detroit business is primed to be THE go-to place for all property owners looking to lease their lots for filming purposes.  Read below.

Filming in Detroit (FID; www.filmingindetroit.com) represents property owners who lease their land, business or home to studios and production entities for location sites. In addition, FID also represents people who may want to work as actors, models or extras.

Serving primarily, however, as a property “casting” agency, FID represents private owners of Michigan property (predominately in Detroit and its surrounding areas) for locations in major motion pictures, television shows, music videos, documentaries and other media. In addition, FID also leases sites for event planning and public relations firms. There is a nominal fee for representation by FID for metro-Detroit property owners able and willing to lease their homes, businesses or land for location sites. — only the opportunity to profit handsomely for participating, and the thrill of potentially being part — a crucial part — of a Hollywood movie.

Founded in 2008 by Jenny Feterovich, a marketing specialist, and Vadim Yelizarov, a photographer and videographer, the partners saw a missing link in Michigan’s most exciting new industry. Says Ms.Feterovich, “We thought it was great that there were companies helping production [companies] find parking, work with the various cities and townships, hire individuals to take directors and producers around the city, to tell them where to lodge, where to eat, where to go out…but who was representing the property owners themselves? In New York and L.A. and Toronto, there are a lot of company’s like this. In Detroit, no one was doing it. So we thought, ‘Somebody needs to represent the property owner and the property.’ They need an agent as if they were an actor in the movie too.”

And this kind of business isn’t just wishful thinking: While unaffiliated with FID, in 2008, major stars and producers like Clint Eastwood, Drew Barrymore and Sigourney Weaver completed production on feature films and television productions right in metropolitan Detroit.

And there will only be more, as Detroit becomes more and more of “the buzz” in Hollywood.

FID provides an array of services, including legal, scouting and the all-important property portfolio. Property owners may take their own photos but a professional portfolio is recommended. There is no fee for representing individuals or their pets for work as extras or other acting/modeling opportunities. The only fee the company issues is a nominal one for homes and businesses as a contingency for their representation.
