“The Search for Signs of Intelligent Life in the Universe”
by Jane Wagner
March 30 – 31, 2009 at 7 p.m.
BoarsHead Theater Second Company
BoarsHead Theater
425 S. Grand Avenue, Lansing

BoarsHead Theater intern Kellie Stonebrook will perform the award-winning, one-woman show that starred Lily Tomlin on Broadway, “The Search for Signs of Intelligent Life in the Universe,” by Jane Wagner, March 30 – 31, 2009, at 7 p.m. Local actor Bruce Bennett is directing the very witty, insightful and truly hilarious look at our planet’s recent social history as seen by many characters, all played by the same actress, as if to explain ourselves to aliens from outer space.
“Kellie is wonderful at creating characters, different voices and expressions, not unlike Lily Tomlin. This show was a great choice for her to perform,” says Bennett, “and we made the decision early not to simply copy Tomlin’s characters, but create our own versions that better suit Kellie’s talents.”
Trudy, a bag lady, who may be in touch with curious space aliens who want to understand us better, narrates the show. Or maybe she’s nuts. But she leads us from one character to another, each explaining life as they live it. Performed with minimal costume and set changes, Stonebrook will be making these transitions mostly with vocal changes and mime business.

The Dark Night Series showcases BoarsHead Theater’s Second Company members, the theater’s interns, who are recent college graduates looking to bridge the gap between the academic and professional worlds of theater. They are responsible for all planning, development and execution of Dark Night productions including play selection, casting, directing and technical aspects.
Admission is free; donations are accepted.
