BoarsHead Theater will hold auditions for the Summer Musical Theater Conservatory April 14 – 15 from 4 – 7 p.m. at the theater. This program is open to all high school freshmen (as of fall 2009) through 20 years of age.

The Conservatory is a three-week program that concludes with two public performances. During their time at BoarsHead, students are trained in a variety of areas including:
- Voice with an emphasis on tone production, diction, projection, interpretation and other vocal techniques.
- Theater with a focus on character development, stage direction, physical expression and vocal inflection.
- Dance instruction that builds on existing dance skills and focuses on stage movement, choreography, flexibility, posture and breathing techniques.

Conservatory dates are July 13-31, 2009, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday through Friday with public performances on July 31 and August 1.

The cost of the program is $400. Some scholarship funds are available.

Those auditioning should bring dance or tennis shoes for the dance portion and everyone must sing one memorized musical theater song. An accompanist will be provided.

Please bring a headshot or other professional photograph. If one is not available, a photo will be taken at the theater.

Directing the program is Equity actress and adjunct professor for Lansing Community College Janine Novenske Smith. Other instructors include Chad Badgero, artistic director of Peppermint Creek Theatre Company, Karyn Perry of Karyn’s Dance Place in Holt and other performing arts professionals.
