Cinco de Mayo bicycle ride to be held on Tres de Mayo! On SUNDAY, May 3rd, at 10 AM, join Detroit Bikes for an informal bicycle ride to Mexicantown in time to enjoy the Mexicantown Parade.
“Informal” means that we have a destination (Clark Park) and an event (Cinco de Mayo parade and celebration), but no formal pre-planned route!!
This ride will travel from downtown Detroit to Mexicantown (Vernor and Scotten) in time to enjoy the Mexicantown Parade (starts at noon) and celebration in Clark Park. If you’ve ever gone to this celebration, you’ll undoubtedly agree that bicycling is the only practical way of getting around Mexicantown on this day. (In fact, many of the streets, depending upon the size of the crowd, will be closed to automobile traffic.)
Because the Tigers’ game starts at 1:00 PM at Comerica, we’re going to change our normal starting location. Rather than meet up at the Millennium Bell in Grand Circus Park, we’ll meet at the Riverwalk’s Rivard Plaza. There is ample free (for the time being) auto parking in the lot just to the east of Rivard Street. We’ll meet near the WheelHouse bicycle shop.
Here’s the facts:
Date: Sunday, May 3, 2009
Time: Start at 10:00 AM
Starting location: Rivard Plaza, Riverwalk, downtown, 10 AM.
Secondary starting location: Millennium Bell, Grand Circus Park at 0930.

Rain, snow or shine, the ride will go!!
Some of us will meet up at the traditional starting point at the Millennium Bell, and ride over to the Riverwalk. You are welcome to join us at the Millennium Bell – at 0930.
