At the Combermere Stage
A unique and life-changing workshop for aspiring filmmakers is coming to Detroit. The intensive three day experience lead by industry insiders is designed to help filmmakers learn the ins and outs of the movie business.
Producer Larry Meistrich (SLING BLADE, YOU CAN COUNT ON ME) will lead the Aspiring Filmmakers Boot Camp and best-selling author and screenwriter, Mitch Albom (TUESDAYS WITH MORRIE, THE FIVE PEOPLE YOU MEET IN HEAVEN, FOR ONE MORE DAY) will speak on the Michigan film incentives and screenwriting.
Participants learn how to write, produce, cast, direct and sell their own feature film, as well as receive practical strategies for navigating the movie industry. Meistrich and his team also explore the areas of marketing and web distribution, as well as alternative routes to breaking into the business.
NEHST Studios is actively seeking new scripts and film talent to fill a slate of upcoming productions. At the end of the boot camp, Meistrich will hold one-on-one pitch sessions for participants who wish to present their best script/story idea for financing and/or production consideration.
During a similar boot camp, Meistrich got to know filmmakers Kevin Kerwin and Kate O’Neill – a husband and wife team who participated in the workshop and pitched their own ideas. Subsequently they were signed to a NEHST Studios deal to produce and direct the feature documentary RUNNING AMERICA, which will be released in 2009.
The Detroit Aspiring Filmmakers Boot Camps is hosted by the Michigan Production Alliance.
Aspiring Filmmakers Boot Camp – a step-by-step workshop designed by industry insiders to teach how to write and direct your own low-budget feature, educate on the “business of the business”, and guide through the steps of prepping, producing, finishing and delivering a film. The weekend culminates in an opportunity to pitch your own idea to Hollywood decision-makers and the possibility to secure a deal for your dream project.
