Literary arts meets 21st Century technology! This is an exclusive Scarab Club/Springfed Arts first-time-ever event featured in cyberspace. Follow Detroit literary legend ML Liebler along with Cassie Poe and LaShaun Phoenix Moore while they engage their individual styles and techniques to craft verse (or prose) about “Summer in Detroit.” For three weeks view each artist “tweeting” their vision line by line via Twitter. As the excitement and anticipation builds, witness the revealing of their final composed literary creation on scarabclub.org–an event you won’t want to miss!

Benefit for Ellen Hildreth, SC Poet in Residence

Over the years, SC Poet in Residence, Ellen Hildreth has become a much-loved member of the arts and literary community. I hope you can join us at for a wonderful event, benefitting Ellen. ML Liebler will host an evening of poetry, music and surprise guests!
Two artists will be donating work for a raffle, with proceeds going to Ellen. Charles Alexander created a special piece for the event, titled ‘Painting on Two Poems by Ellen.’ S. Kay Young has donated a photographic print, as well.

Faux Painting Workshop
Sunday, July 19th 1-4 pm
$40 for SC Members | $45 for Non-Members
Mike McMath, Scarab Club Artist in Residence, will be offering a faux painting workshop at the Scarab Club. Participants will learn how to create unique wall treatments with faux finishes. The basic technique will be Venetian plaster, as seen on the second floor landing at the SC. it is a 5-step process, which creates an antique Tuscan effect. He will also address subtractive faux finish techniques such as leather, strie and combing. Class is limited to 12 students. Reserve your spot! Contact the office at 313-831-1250.
