The mezzanine at River’s Edge Gallery will be transformed into SLAWville once again. SLAWville is a place that is decorated with retro 50’s type of furniture and where martinis are flowing and the walls are covered with popular artists SLAW’s art work.  SLAW combines an unusual sense of humor with retro style people and settings reminiscent of the 50’s.   The last two times it became SLAWville it had  turned into sell out shows.

This time SLAW has let his viewers see “the darker side” of his sense of humor.    In this show, called Return to SLAWville but it’s Dark Out Now,  which will open May 30th with a private reception and run until July 31st,  SLAW’s martini clad crowd are being taken over by some shady characters from another dimension in some strange situations– think Twilight Zone

This entirely new body of work carries both the style that SLAW is known for and a style that is altogether different.  In this old meets new, you’ll find some shady and sinister characters have snuck their way into SLAWVILLE.  Many of these characters are people who one  may recognize like the lunch lady, the pilot, the bartender or the dentist.  Humor, wit and a bit of insanity are laced into these new pieces.

www.artattheedge.com.   ” SLAW is a nationally recognized artist and we feel many of his new pieces will be sold out of state.  Of course, we want to give our collectors first chance but the fact is some artists reputations go outside our area.”  according to Jeremy Hansen.  He also added that European markets are very interested in Detroit art stating that many of the hits on the gallery’s site come from Germany, Australia and New Zealand.

SLAW will also be available for a meet and greet on June 19th at Wyandotte’s Third Friday and will be painting in front of the gallery during the entire Wyandotte Street Fair held on July 8th through the 11th.   SLAW is now in the Russell Industrial Complex that is housing so many of Detroit’s great artists.

The show runs through July 31st with many events in between. The River’s Edge Gallery is located at 3024 biddle ave  in wyandotte, Michigan. For more infromation call 734-246-9880, visit www.artattheedge.com or  email: riversedgegallery@wyan.org.
