December 7-11, 2009
Capstone Art Gallery, Sherzer Hall
Reception: Tuesday, December 8, 2009 5-7pm
The Department of Art at Eastern Michigan University presents a MA Thesis Exhibition by Caryn Schmitt.

Caryn Schmitt explores and captures various symbols of life in a series of watercolor paintings. Images of plants symbolize the miracle of life and its seasons. These botanical images accompany still life paintings that capture treasured objects as symbols of an individual’s life, his or her interests, values, and characteristics. These still life paintings create portraits of loved ones, reaching beyond a person’s physical appearance to reveal their values. Caryn Schmitt’s work is a celebration of life: seen in the intricate beauty of plants, cherished objects that hold the priceless memories of loved ones, and the tender relationship between Grandparent and Grandchild. The work is stunningly crafted with compositions that accentuate color and dramatic light and shadow.
The exhibition will run from December 7-11, 2009 in the EMU Capstone Gallery in Sherzer Hall. It is free and open to the public
