Dolores Slowinski’s “Appendicitis” In International Exhibition
Motor City Brewing Works, December 16, 2009
Chelsea Art Center through December 19, 2009.
The only similarity between Dolores Slowinski’s three “flying sock monkeys” that were accepted into the Silver Medal Exhibition at the Scarab Club this past March and her current work is stitches. Her new series, Thread Lines, hand stitched drawings on paper, take on more ethereal if not ephemeral subjects that at times seem almost trans-dimensional. Ethereal or not they have garnered the attention and appreciation of jurors and art lovers.
“Appendicitis”, one of Slowinski’s stitched drawings, has been accepted into an international juried exhibition at the Northwest Art Center, Minot State University, Minot, North Dakota. “Americas 2010 Paperworks” is a show of works on or of paper that has a thirty year history.
The juror, Heidi Goldberg, has an MFA from U of M, Ann Arbor in printmaking and paperwork. She currently teaches at Concordia College in Moorhead, MN and lives near Walcott, ND. Goldberg was challenged with the task of reviewing 657 pieces submitted by 216 artists of which only sixty were selected for this exhibition.
Closer to home, “Precipitation” and “Undercurrents”, two more stitched drawings, are currently in “Hydrology,“a fine little show of 25 works in painting, printmaking, photography, fiber, and drawing. at the Chelsea Art Center, Chelsea, MI. It closes December 19, 2009.
