Satori Circus underwater, photo by Mark YasenchakSATORI CIRCUS is back at home at 1515 Broadway Theatre this coming mid-December for his ‘Hodgepodge’ performance. ‘Hodgepodge’ is exactly what it means…”a confused mixture”…”random collection”…”a mixed bag”…”assortment”.
‘Hodgepodge’ is a collection of SATORI CIRCUS vignettes from over the past three years. Selections for any given evening will come from MOSES:39 (2006), FUNY AS HELL (2007), CHILD-PROOF (2008)…and shorter performance art pieces from the Dirty Shows, DAMNED I & II and Theatre Bizarre. Plus, one could be witness to ‘new’ pieces as well as relics dug up from SATORI CIRCUS’ 21 year’s of performing.
In September of 1988, Russell A. Taylor began a journey some said wouldn’t have such longevity, but two decades later Taylor and SATORI CIRCUS are still here. Emerging out of the art punk band of Fugitive Poetry, which he co-founded with his dear friend Rick Maertens, Taylor set out to create something, unbeknownst to him as performance art. With this new project, Taylor would incorporate all his interests: music, poetry/lyrics, movement, art, film, props, costumes, characters, vaudeville, Silent Film, cabaret, burlesque and German Theatre. Combining these media and SATORI CIRCUS was born.
With 21 year’s of material to choose from and the 3 full performance art pieces, and recent shorter pieces, the seven dates that SATORI CIRCUS will be at 1515 Broadway promise to be exciting. No two shows will be the same, and to broaden this definition, SATORI CIRCUS will have participation from some dear performance friends. On any given night, you may see Chantal Dixon, Flec, Warrior Girl, Bazooka Jones, Jessica Rabbit, Bride Stripped Bare, Firehouse Jones, Dixon, Baker…and who knows who else.
