Charles McGeeJuror Charles McGee will award over $1,500 in cash prizes to the winners of the Michigan Annual XXXVI art competition at the Anton Art Center’s opening reception 6-9 pm Friday, January 22, 2010.
McGee, recipient of the first Kresge Eminent Artist award, selected 56 out of 150 entries from artists around the state. McGee will also select First, Second and Third Prize winners, who will receive cash awards of $800, $500 and $300, respectively. The awards are sponsored by the Anton Art Center.
The exhibition opens in the Anton Art Center’s Main Galleries January 22 and will run through February 27. This exhibition has been a long standing tradition, bringing together some of the best artwork across the state.
“The Michigan Annual gives viewers an opportunity to view the diverse work being created right here in our state,” says Exhibition Coordinator Alison Wong. “One exciting aspect of this exhibition is being able to see the development of Russ Orlando’s work.” Orlando, a mixed media artist based in Franklin, won Best of Show in the 2009 Michigan Annual, and will have two pieces on display this year.
Two Target Free Family Fun Days will be held in conjunction with the Michigan Annual XXXVI. Sponsored by Target, these drop-in workshops require no reservation and give visitors of all ages a chance to try something new. Target Free Family Fun Days are planned for January 31and February 28, from 1-4 pm, at the Anton Art Center.
