OPENING RECEPTION, Thursday, March 11, 2010 – 5:00 – 7:00 PM

Wayne County Community College District’s Brown and Juanita C. Ford Gallery will host the Opening Exhibition of “Manifestations” on Thursday, March 11, 2010, 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. at 1001 West Fort in the Downtown Campus of WCCCD. The gallery will exhibit 10 Wayne County Community College Faculty art instructors’ works from March 11 – April 24, 2010. The public is welcome to attend the opening reception to meet the artists and view fine art.
“Manifestations” features drawings, paintings, photography and mixed-media art works created by: Virinder Chaudhery, Henry Dryonage, Gregory Johnson, Carl Kamulski, Chris Melikan, Jocelyn Rainey, Arthur Roland, Bill Sanders, Sarah Slobodzian, and Roy Steyskal. This exhibition features the works of Wayne County Community College Districts’ Art Instructors. The exhibition is an opportunity for the community and students at the college to view the remarkable talents of the WCCCD teaching faculty and be inspired to pursue the fine arts as a profession.
Jocelyn Rainey, painter and instructor, states, “The formal structure of my paintings is base on texture, color and light. Building varied surfaces in the paintings using collage and found objects provides a rich interior landscape for brilliant color application and allows me to explore the mysteries of light and shadow.
Carl Kamulski, says ”I count myself as a very fortunate person, for more than four decades my passion has been my profession. As a professor at Wayne County Community College District, gallery director and an exhibiting artist; I have had the great opportunity to learn from thousands of students and professional artists. For me, “Art is adult play.” Most of the pieces of work that I produce have some sort of humor or whimsy connected to them. I guess, for me, I just can’t take any of this life too seriously. In the end, it is the process of creating a work of art that matters far more than the product.”
Dr. Curtis L. Ivery, WCCCD Chancellor says, “The Faculty Show provides exemplary arts education and aids students in skills needed in the work place, adaptability, and foments drive, expression and vision. Participation in the fine arts fosters discipline, a sense of community, trust and teamwork. All of these qualities are essential to a student’s potential success in life.”
