The Art of the Artist’s Book is a survey, chiefly of one-of-a-kind books, featuring works from the last two decades, a time when the artist’s book has come of age. The book form, as a work of visual art, finds its roots in seminal 19th century works such as Jerusalem The Emanation of the Giant Albion, 1804-1820, by William Blake. His book of bound engravings was produced in an edition. The majority of the books here, however, are either singular sculptures, taking the book form as their starting point, or unique books of images and/or texts. This exhibition shares, opens-up, and reveals the unique intimacy, vision and aesthetic value of the artist’s book.
