Local artists spotted in the Detroit Institute of Arts

The new Kresge Fellows in the visual arts have been announced and in a nice change up, there are some new works on view in the contemporary wing of the DIA, from Mark Newport, Anders Ruhwald and Gary Eleinko. Another treat is the new use of the Walter Gibbs Gallery to showcase work by visitors of the museum. In a nice continuation of Mitch and Gina’s Neighborhood Project, the Elephant Project and the 2011 Detroit Public School Student Show Exhibition, drawings are hung that were created as inspired by the special exhibition “It’s a Zoo in Here.”

Also not to be left out is the opposite of local artists in the museum, there are museum pieces out in public! Since the first year was a hit, there are reproductions of the DIA’s works in cities all over Michigan, see the link from the DIA’s own blog:
