- As mentioned last week, ArtPrize is in full swing already. This year the ArtPrize team added guest speakers to the mix, which include Reed Kroloff, who is the new director of the Cranbrook Academy of Art and Art Museum in Bloomfield Hills
- As mentioned in my previous posts, I am not the biggest fan of ruin porn (I find the majority of it uninspired due to the fact that my classmates in high school took similar pictures back in the early and mid 90s). The Detroit Institute of Arts showcases photographers that take a more layered and sophisticated look at Detroit, including recent Kresge winner Scott Hocking
- I came across some great international press about Detroit from Ireland- it’s a well-rounded article from the Irish Times calling on the Irish to travel to Detroit
- Speaking of positive press, Working Pictures is finalizing a three-part series called “Motor City Rising,” which highlights postive aspect of Detroit and is scheduled to premiere on the arts and culture network Ovation in April
- Detroit’s resident cheerleader Mitch Albom just awarded a $60,000 scholarship to Sherelle Garrison of Detroit School of the Arts to attend the College of Creative Studies
- Speaking of writers, some writers/artists/drinkers just transformed a vacant lot in Detroit into The Tashmoo Biergarten
