Holiday Puppet Performance: Tangle of Tales

Monday-Wednesday at 2 p.m.
Using a variety of puppet sizes, the Grey Seal Puppets perform three favorite folks tales from around the world – “The Frog Prince” from Germany, “Three Billy Goats Gruff” from Scandinavia, and “The Three Little Pigs” from England – with refreshing wit and wisdom. Holiday Puppet Performance: Animalia
Thursday-Saturday at 2 p.m. 
Hobey Ford’s large-scale foam puppets use the whole theater as their performance space for this production exploring the world of animals, including butterfly and frog metamorphosis, the lives of birds and whales, frolicking dolphins, and otters in an undersea ballet. Rembrandt and the Face of Jesus
Through February 12, 2012
 

 

The approximately sixty small, intimate paintings, drawings, and prints in this exhibition show how Rembrandt van Rijn dramatically changed the approach to depicting the figure of Jesus, moving away from one of majesty, drama, and theatricality to a more human one of meditation and reflection. Once Upon a Time: Prints and Drawings that Tell Stories

Telling stories through prints and drawings is the subject of this exhibition consisting of works from the DIA’s collection. It includes selections from familiar series, portfolios, and books, as well as several examples that have rarely or never been on view at the museum. Detroit Revealed: Photographs 2000-2010
Through April 29, 2012
 

 

Contemporary artists present photographs and video inspired by Detroit, its people, diverse culture, and industries in work created from 2000-2010. The exhibition includes more than 50 photographs by artists including Michelle Andonian, Carlos Diaz, and Scott Hocking. The DIA has been able to offer free field trips to 8,000 students thanks to a generous grant from Target. Due to demand, Target has provided additional funds and we are accepting applications for free field trips through January 13, 2012. Teachers click here to apply.
