Carl (right) and Monte (left)Their Beginning: The 555 gallery has had many locations, first starting in 2002 in Ann Arbor in a technology center. Having recently graduated from the University of Michigan School of Art & Design, Carl Goines and J Monte Martinez envisioned creating a studio and gallery setting where emerging artists, performers, musicians, and activists could come together, exchange ideas, and exhibit their work. Since then they are located in Southwest Detroit, their new space, an old cigar building on Michigan Avenue is courtesy of Southwest Solutions. They are currently moving forward to establish a solid space within the city of Detroit.

Hours and Location: 5716 Michigan Avenue, Detroit, MI, 48210 5 blocks east of Livernois.
Gallery Hours: During openings and events, check their calendar.

Mission Statement:The mission of 555 is to provide space for community-based arts and arts education projects and activities, including classes and workshops, to provide low cost studio and exhibition space, as well as the Artist Residency Program for emerging and professional artists. 555 is also dedicated to enhancing public awareness of the arts through collaborative projects with other non-profit arts and community organizations.
