Mission Statement: The mission of the Museum of Contemporary Art Detroit is to present art at the forefront of contemporary culture. As a non-collecting institution, MOCAD is responsive to the cultural content of our time, fueling crucial dialogue, collaboration, and public engagement.

“I want to bring in an edginess and freshness and have art with a brave attitude… We will be giving this building a voice. And though my art direction I want to give MOCAD a character people will recognize. I want exhibitions that are interesting but also furious, art that is not afraid of anything. People are coming down here for the Tigers and the Lions, I want to be able to say that we have art and artists here that are more fierce than any tiger or lion.” – Luis Croquer

Contact Info and How They Find Artists:
[General Information] 313.832.6622, info@mocadetroit.org
[Special Events Coordinator - Edward Jackson] edward@mocadetroit.org
In the past they have found artists through guest curators, however now the director finds the artists. You are free to send your information in the mail. Once a year artists are chosen to be part of a yearly auction benefit as well.

Something Different: MOCAD prides itself on bringing art to Michigan that may skip over the entire mid-west entirely. Also the museum store has some fun items and contemporary art books that visitors can peek through.
