Saltwater offers Seared Sea Scallops that are prepared with sherried corn purée, bacon, and haricot vert; the Wolfgang Puck Grille offers a Sautéed Salmon served with fingerling potatoes, confit bacon, and whole-grain mustard sauce; and The Caucus Club offers a Classic Wedge Salad served with creamy blue cheese, bacon, and tomato. You cannot go wrong!

I admit that I do not have the most sophisticated palate, and I am a tad obsessed with the powers of bacon (sorry to all of our readers that are vegetarians). So I enlisted the help of Cliff Bells , which is a new stop for this year’s Restaurant Week, to help with our coverage of Restaurant Week. I have also enlisted the help of Detroit’s resident foodie Maria of The Detroit Foodie blog. I am sure that their insights will go beyond bacon.

So check back here often for reviews and suggestions for this year’s Restaurant Week, and email me with any suggestions or reviews that you have during this year’s Restaurant Week.

7pm Doors / 7.30pm Stories

Moth StorySLAMS have been rocking audiences in New York and Los Angeles since 2001. In October of this year, the Moth, a national organization based in New York, alighted in the midwest to launch StorySLAMs in Chicago and Detroit. The monthly StorySLAM is one of the many ways that The Moth achieves its mission of promoting the art of storytelling.

Here’s how it works (from www.themoth.org): the Moth StorySLAM provides a stage and a microphone, a theme to inspire and shape the evening, a lively and supportive audience, and a host to guide the festivities. Stories are limited to five minutes, and ten stories are heard. The stories are scored by three teams of audience-member judges, and a winner is announced at every SLAM. SLAM winners later face off in a Moth GrandSLAM.

Clockwise from left: Host Dan Kennedy, slam contestants
(Metro Times)

The Moth launched Detroit’s StorySLAM on the first Thursday of October with the fitting theme of Firsts. Blunders followed on November 5. Tomorrow’s storytellers will wax poetic, comic, and tragic on a theme familiar to all Detroiters: Cars.

Detroit StorySLAMs are held on the first Thursday of each month at:
Cliff Bell’s
2030 Park Avenue
Detroit, MI 48226
www.cliffbells.com
Tickets: $5 at the door.

You can tune in to The Moth Radio Hour on 101.9FM WDET, the media sponsor of the Detroit Moth StorySLAM, Fridays at 7 p.m. and Saturdays at 4 p.m.
You can also check out www.themoth.org.

Part 2 of the Family Funktion reunion series.

In case you missed the Memorial weekend party now you get another chance. If you did attend, we thank you for helping to make it a great night.

This time, we a bring you a special night with Recloose and the Dennis Coffey Quartet.

Matthew Chicoine, aka Recloose, returns to Detroit, for a one night, rare, special DJ set. As a DJ/ producer and live musician Recloose is one of the most versatile and successful talents to emerge from the Detroit scene in recent years. Coming to us from his new home in New Zealand,
this native Detroiter returns to hit us with his eclectic taste of musical wonderment.

Along with very special guest Dennis Coffey and his Quartet. This legendary funk/jazz guitarist is the man who gave us the classic and much sampled tracks Scorpio and Taurus as well as the theme to Black Belt Jones. As a former Funk Brother, Dennis played on many of Motown’s greatest records and has recorded with Stevie Wonder, Quincy Jones, Marvin Gaye and George Clinton to name a few. Dennis Coffey and his quartet join us to lay down some Detroit funk/jazz genius.

Three-part vintage fashion show w/ DJ Brad Hales • The Fondas perform • Fundraiser for Arts & Scraps

WHEN? Sunday, June 21 • Doors @ 8PM • Fashion show begins @ 9PM

WHERE? Cliff Bell’s • 2030 Park Ave., Detroit • 313.961.2543, or cliffbells.com

COST? $10 at the door, or $5 with any of these donation items: box of crayons, wine corks, old CDs or buttons (art supplies will benefit Arts & Scraps)

As summer rapidly approaches, we’ve got to ask ourselves — what will fashion mean this season? And as history will tell us, the best way to learn about modern fashion is to understand its multitude of styles and faces throughout the years. On Sunday, June 21, the city of Detroit will receive such a lesson as Lost & Found Vintage, Upstares Salon and Cliff Bell’s team up to showcase SIRENS OF THE SOLSTICE — a three-part fashion show that collides the finest in retro swimwear, vintage couture and what can only be described as a psychedelic bonanza of fashion for the senses. The fashion show will be set to the old soul and R&B smoothness of DJ Brad Hales followed by a rare live performance from Detroit’s own The Fondas.

Not only will this Sunday engagement be bringing to life the delicious vintage fashions from days of yore, but SIRENS OF THE SOLSTICE will also be benefiting one of Detroit’s finest art institutions — Arts & Scraps, a program that turns the leftover industrial elements of Detroit into bright, vivid art projects for inner-city youth and beyond.
