Made in Detroit, with Love

I‘ve decided to devote the entire blog this month to one of my passions, art. I want to tell you about some of my favorite exhibits, artists, curators, educators, lectures and venues that I’ve discovered over the past month.

Love Talk: I’ll begin with a timely and thoughtful project Let’s Talk About Love, Baby by artist [...]

Shooting Yoga Dan

I recently had the pleasure of photographing and getting to know Daniel Aaron Gottlieb, aka “Yoga Dan.” Full of inner and outer beauty, he revels in sharing his grace as a skilled yoga teacher and “yogi extraordinaire.” Daniel attended art school, and was ready for a career in professional basketball when his life turned toward [...]

On Longing

When I was a little girl my dad traveled. Every week he’d make his way to a work destination that was five hours away. Monday mornings before we got up for school, he would leave me, my mother and my two brothers and reappear on Thursday or Friday evening for the weekends.

In the ‘60’s [...]

‘F’ Word Project Updates

The ‘F’ Word Project is gaining momentum, thanks to some dedicated artists and curators. My friend and talented artist Julie McDonough came to me recently with an idea for a photo shoot which she calls “Forgive.” The shoot came together with the help of Tess Garoon, who did the hair and makeup and helped with [...]

Detroit Artist and Icon Gilda Snowden Is Living History

Gilda Snowden
Like the artist herself, Gilda Snowden’s studio space is steeped in a rich history. Artists Jerome Ferretti and Aaron Timlin previously occupied the space, so it almost vibrates with creative energy.

To focus on a single work of Snowden’s art is like trying to choose from hundreds of Pinocchios as they came to life, [...]

Ride On The Art Train…With Stops In Bejing And Glen Arbor

It certainly has been a busy ride this month. I’ve travelled from Bejing to Glen Arbor and back….always on the same quest, searching for those bits and pieces of inspiration that keep driving me onward to create that essential work of art. I seek that one piece that will speak to me, providing all the answers to my never-ending questions about life, art, love and existence, the missing piece to the…

Surfing the web…like eating that fourth or fifth chocolate.

What I love about surfing the web is that it’s so absorbing. You type your search or address and before you know it, hours have gone by. What I don’t like about web surfing is that it’s kind of like eating that fourth or fifth chocolate. I glance at the clock, it’s midnight. I know I should go to bed, but continue anyway. I get pulled in, something draws me further and further into the unknown vastness of…
